I wanted to send out a quick update with all of the information that we know regarding the COVID19 vaccine rollout plan. As you know, North Carolina is following a phased distribution process of the vaccine based on certain risk factors. We are currently in Phase 1A and will plan to move to Phase 1B on 1/11/2021. The timeline for future Phases is still unknown but will let you know as soon as we find out.
Who is included in Phase 1B?
- People 75 years and older
- All healthcare workers and front-line essential workers (please see the info-graphic below to see if you qualify – Click to enlarge)
Where do I get the vaccine?
- The vaccine currently is only being distributed to the public through Buncombe County Health and Human Services (BCHHS) department.
- You MUST make an appointment prior to getting the vaccine
- They are distributing both the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines (which one you get is based on what they have in stock for that day)
How do I make an appointment?

Call (828) 250-5000 Monday-Friday between 8am-5pm. You can start calling on 1/7/2021.
- Once you make your appointment, they will tell you when and where to go for your vaccine.
- You only need to bring your insurance information on the day you get your vaccine (if you do not have insurance, let them know when you make the appointment).
- They will automatically schedule your second dose of the vaccine 3-4 weeks after you receive the first round.
PLEASE NOTE: North Carolina only has an extremely limited supply of vaccines, so your appointment time may be at a later date based on vaccine availability. Phone lines may also be busy. Because of this, BCHHS has asked that you be patient and trust that they are working as fast as they can to keep our community safe.
In closing, I do encourage everyone who is able to receive the vaccine to consider it. It has gone through proper testing channels, has been shown to be very effective and very safe, and will certainly help in our ongoing fight against this virus. Dr. Roberts, a few of our staff, and myself were able to get our vaccine this week — other than sore arms, we feel good!
