In honor of Alzheimer’s Awareness Month, my latest article in MountainX explores the growing epidemic of dementia and—more importantly—the hopeful strategies we now have to prevent it. While modern treatments remain limited, more than half of dementia cases may be preventable with the right lifestyle and medical interventions.
In the article, I walk through the 14 modifiable risk factors identified in the 2024 Lancet Report, with a special focus on what I call the “Use-It-Or-Lose-It” factors—education, exercise, sensory protection, and social engagement.
